Classic China Peking / Shanghai and the Terracotta Warriors

Your Holiday Itinerary
 

Day 1 Join the direct overnight flight to Shanghai.

Day 2 Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to your hotel. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. This afternoon enjoy a visit to the Pearl TV Tower, for superb views of Shanghai city. Tonight, you can join the optional Shanghai evening river cruise.

Day 3 After breakfast, visit the magnificent Yu Yuan Garden and stroll along the Bund, a famous tree-lined promenade running parallel to the Huangpu River. Following lunch, transfer to the airport for the flight to Xi’an, where, on arrival, we will transfer to the hotel for a two-night stay.

Day 4 Embark on a full-day tour of the amazing city of Xi’an. Visit Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi’s Terracotta Warriors and Horses, a life-size army of 8,000 warriors, built to guard the Emperor’s tomb and protect him in the afterlife. Other sights you’ll see on the tour include the Wild Goose Pagoda, the city walls and Stone Forest.

Day 5 This morning, fly to Peking for a three-night stay. This afternoon enjoy a tour of Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square, bordered by the Qianmen Gate, Great Hall of the People and Gate of Heavenly Peace. You’ll also see the Temple of Heaven, a beautiful complex consisting of three main buildings.

Day 6 Today, enjoy a full-day tour of the Great Wall at Badaling. We also visit the Ming Tombs, the burial place of thirteen emperors. This evening, join our optional excursion to the renowned Peking Opera, the biggest opera of its kind in China.

Day 7 Today we visit the 800-year-old Summer Palace and the magnificent Forbidden City, a complex of palaces and pavilions. You’ll trace the footsteps of Chinese emperors and see the Imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties. You can also join our optional Peking by rickshaw excursion.

Day 8 This morning, visit Peking Zoo and meet one of China’s national treasures, the Giant Panda, before continuing to Peking Airport for the flight to Shanghai. Upon arrival we will transfer to your hotel. You will have the remainder of the afternoon at leisure before dinner.

Day 9 Transfer to Shanghai Airport for the return flight to the UK.
